Independent Supplement Analysis
Our Process

Methodology

How we research, evaluate, and rate dietary supplements. Transparent standards for independent product analysis.

Pure Lab Reports follows a structured, reproducible methodology for evaluating dietary supplements. Our goal is to provide readers with transparent, evidence-based assessments that help distinguish quality formulations from marketing hype.

This page outlines the standards, criteria, and processes we apply to every product we review.

1. Scope & Product Selection

We select products based on market relevance, consumer interest, and emerging trends in men’s health, women’s wellness, oral care, weight management, and general supplementation. We do not accept payment or incentives to include specific products in our review pipeline. Selection is editorially independent.

Priority is given to products that:

  • Have significant consumer search volume or market presence;
  • Make notable claims about efficacy, safety, or formulation quality;
  • Introduce novel ingredient combinations or delivery mechanisms.

2. Information Sources

Our evaluations are based on publicly available information, including:

  • Official product websites and marketing materials;
  • Published scientific literature accessed via PubMed, NIH, and academic databases;
  • Ingredient databases and monographs (e.g., Examine.com, Natural Medicines Database);
  • Regulatory notices and FDA warning letters, when applicable;
  • Third-party lab testing data, if publicly disclosed by the manufacturer.

We do not conduct independent laboratory testing of products ourselves. We do not have access to proprietary formulation data beyond what the manufacturer publicly discloses.

3. Ingredient Evaluation Criteria

For each active ingredient in a supplement, we assess:

  • Evidence of efficacy — volume, quality, and relevance of published human studies;
  • Dosage plausibility — whether the included amount aligns with research-backed ranges;
  • Mechanism alignment — whether the ingredient’s known mechanism supports the product’s stated claim;
  • Safety profile — known side effects, contraindications, and interactions;
  • Transparency — whether the ingredient is clearly listed with dosage and form (e.g., extract standardization).

4. Claim Assessment

We evaluate product claims against the available evidence:

  • Direct claims (e.g., “supports prostate health”) are compared to clinical trial outcomes;
  • Implied claims (e.g., before/after scenarios, testimonials) are analyzed for substantiation;
  • Regulatory compliance — we flag language that may overstep FDA or FTC guidelines for dietary supplements.

We do not verify anecdotal testimonials or user-submitted reviews as scientific evidence.

5. Editorial Scoring

Where applicable, products may be rated across dimensions including:

  • Formulation Quality — evidence base, dosage, and synergy of ingredients;
  • Transparency — clarity of labeling, manufacturing disclosures, and company background;
  • Value — cost per serving relative to ingredient quality and dosage;
  • Guarantee & Trust — refund policies, customer service accessibility, and brand reputation.

Scores are qualitative and comparative, not quantitative or statistically derived. They reflect our editorial judgment based on the available evidence at the time of review.

6. Conflict of Interest & Affiliate Disclosure

Pure Lab Reports participates in affiliate marketing programs. If a reader clicks an affiliate link and makes a purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to the buyer.

Our editorial evaluations are conducted independently of any affiliate relationship. Affiliate status does not guarantee a positive review, nor does it influence scoring or inclusion decisions. Products with no affiliate program receive the same analytical treatment as those with one.

Full disclosures are available on our Disclaimer and About pages.

7. Updates & Corrections

Supplement markets and research evolve. We periodically revisit reviews to:

  • Reflect new published studies or meta-analyses;
  • Update pricing, availability, and formulation changes;
  • Correct factual errors brought to our attention.

Review dates are noted at the top of each article. Major updates are flagged within the content.

8. Limitations

Our methodology has inherent limitations:

  • We do not independently test products for purity, potency, or contaminants;
  • We rely on manufacturer-reported ingredient lists and dosages, which may not always be accurate;
  • Individual results vary; our reviews describe aggregate evidence, not personal outcomes;
  • We are not medical professionals. Reviews are informational, not prescriptive.

9. Feedback & Suggestions

We welcome methodological feedback and correction requests. If you represent a brand and believe a review contains factual inaccuracies, please contact us with supporting documentation for consideration.

Editorial Standards

All reviews are researched using publicly available scientific literature and manufacturer data. We do not accept payment for coverage or placement.
